6 free at home Vaginal Steam setups

DIY book stack yoni steam stool

When I speak to women about pelvic steaming one of the biggest hurdles to overcome is the setup. It is daunting to be causally told by someone “Yeah just kneel over a steaming pot of water, its great!”.

It is a lot to ask someone to spend $100-400 on a steam stool before you have even tried the practice. So I want to share with you 6 free setups I found in my home. Hopefully one of these will help give you some inspiration to try a DIY Yoni steam session or amend your current practice.

1 The book stack

Grab any large books you have around the house and stack them in two piles creating a V shape.

Pros This worked quite well as the books aren’t as dense as timber and the stack acted as insulation for the steam.

Cons It is not a long term steam setup as the books would gradually be damaged from the steam.

Where to buy: World of books is a great online second hand bookshop where you can snag a few good buys or head to your local thrift shop and buy a stack there.

2 The chair flip

Take any solid chair that’s backing is inline with seat and flip it on its side.

Pros Easy to setup and is durable as the steam is less likely to damage the chair than other options.

Cons With the narrow timber it was not very comfortable, but do-able for a 10 min steam session. Second because this particular chair had an open back it made insulating with a blanket a little tricky.

Where to buy: If you don’t have a suitable dining chair, kmart have this one which would create a nice steam sauna or head to your local thrift shop for a chair.

3 The cushion stack

I stole the kids Nook cushions and stacked them up. You could use any firm foam cushions stacked for this vaginal steam setup.

Pros This was the most comfortable of all my free home yoni steam setups

Cons The synthetic material could release toxic compounds whilst you’re steaming and over time mould could develop on the material. Not a long term option!

Where to buy: This ottoman would be awesome flipped on its side and give a similar effect.

4 The stool lock

If you are a mother of multiple little ones you may just have two little stools or kids chairs that you could interlock the legs to make a sitting area.

Pros It was relatively comfortable to sit on and you could get a towel and fold it up for added comfort. Like the chair this is a durable option as the stools are sealed.

Cons there weren’t any, although it may not be common to have 2 children’s stools in your home.

Where to buy: Whilst I don’t encourage plastics the goal here is to get something accessible and these stools from Kmart are just that and would work perfectly.

5 The pot squat

Taking an off cut of timbre hubby cut a U shape into it (could be a simple V if you don’t have the fancy tools) and then placed over the pot.

Pros By using the scrap timber this option became repurposed and its dedicated purpose is for yoni steaming. other options here could at any time be being used for children’s play or someones study.

Cons Whilst this was a steady pot, there is a higher risk with this option and I needed to be quite caution with this steam setup.

6 The surrendered kneel

Over time my preferred position is kneeling as it pushes me into the feminine art of surrender.

Pros creates a great open space for the steam circulate between the legs. there is no extra setup required and as I wrote above the vulnerable act of kneeling over steaming water opens up surrender to be cultivated.

Cons You’re kneeling over a pot of steaming water. Do i need to say more? It’s high risk and if you have kids who may or may not respect your personal space it could be high risk as they come and jump on you for a hug. I may be speaking from experience, although I’ve never been hurt!

Which one Would you try? Other DIY home setups could be yoga blocks stacked, 2 off cut pieces of timber laid in a V shape over a large pot or a wire basket flipped over the pot (although the wire may get hot and hazardous). The list is endless and hopefully this post has given you some ideas of how you can setup a steam session in your home. Jump over HERE to read about how to setup a home steam session.
